Are you for real?

I expect that most of you reading this will be aware of “The Sims”, a virtual reality game that you can play on your PC. The player of the game assumes an almost god-like role and creates a family, which can then live a life, not unlike our own. For example a person can be created by choosing from options, such as eye and hair colour, ethnic background, clothing, even personality traits! The virtual person/people can then “live” as interesting or mundane a life, as the player so wishes.

In recent years, it has been suggested that we are in fact all living in a simulation ourselves, and when you delve further into that suggestion, it seems increasingly feasible, if somewhat scary!
With technology advancing at the rate that it is at the moment, surely it would be possible to create a computer that can simulate a world of our own choosing. This means that many of the scenarios in recent sci-fi movies and TV programs might not be as fictitious as they were once deemed to be. And if you or I decided to take part in a virtual reality environment, wouldn’t we want to re-create our dead friends and relatives and live with them once again? So, have my forbearers re-created me? And does it also mean that someone has created a virtual world in which someone has created a virtual world…?
The arguments for and against this theory always seem to lead back to a very high probability of us being in a virtual world.

It’s a fascinating read! If you have any comments or ideas, I’d love to hear from you!
